Period: Qajar Period

Description: Four exquisite papier-mâché pen cases with sumptuous lacquer-painted decoration, unsigned, pour forth like four springs of celestial wine the taste of heavenly

delight upon the connoisseur’s palate. Two of them, adorned with mystical gatherings, feasts, and scenes of life, are likely from the celebrated workshop of Abdol-Hossein Khan Sanie Homayoun; one is embellished with regal floral-and-bird motifs and colourful boteh designs; and the last is decorated with the portrait of a Qajar dignitary, accompanied by flowers, nightingales, and boteh patterns. The final piece, despite being unsigned, is unquestionably the work of Mohammadbaqer Semirumi Naqqashbashi, painter-in-chief, one of the renowned masters of the late Qajar period.
