Founder of the “School of Light” (Maktab-e Noor) in modern Iranian painting, rooted in the enduring traditions of Iranian mysticism (Erfan), culture, and art. Born into a religious family, he pursued his education at the Faculty of Decorative Arts (University of Tehran) and subsequently dedicated his life to creating artworks and teaching art in Isfahan. At a pivotal time when many of his contemporaries were heavily influenced by various European art movements, Emami focused on developing his own style, known as the “School of Light.” This school, inspired by the philosophical and mystical concepts of Islam and Iran, was rendered in a modern idiom, somewhat reminiscent of the works produced by the artists of the Saqqakhaneh movement.
